The College of Education LibraryThe UP College of Education Library is one of the 25 college libraries serving the University of the Philippines Diliman and the University of the Philippines System. One of the larger of these libraries, its collection includes more than 50,000 books, some 4000 theses and dissertation and research papers, 200 standardized tests, 100 current journal subscriptions, and special collections such as children?s books, microfiches, newspaper clippings, educational documents, and electronic databases such as the ERIC CD-ROM and PHILJURIS. It has access to the Dissertation Abstract International (DAI) on CD-ROM through the UP Main Library. It has also an enviable collection of maps, pictures, slides, cassette tapes and other forms of information sources and instructional media resources. The Library is a depository of publications of the UNESCO and the International Institute for Educational Planning. Founded in 1950, the College Library was established with donations and support from PHICUSA/MSA specially in its first decade. It has received donation from the Colombo Plan, the Ford Foundation, the Ford-Mellon Gant, and various UNESCO agencies. It's main collection development support, however, is the library fee collection from the students of the college, which has averaged about P 1.5 million annually in the last five years. This book fund and donations have enabled the library collection to grow from 3% to 5% annually. As part of the UP library network, the collection of the College Library are classified according to the Library of Congress classification System 1988, the catalog has been computerized using the CDS/ISIS; the contents of the card catalog are in the process of conversion. The Library materials support the curricula, research and extension programs of the College of Education and the General Education Program. These are served in open shelves and through the reserve desk on the Third Floor of the Benitez Hall, the College of Education, Mondays through Saturdays from 8: 00 a.m. till 7:00 p.m. The Library staff is comprised of three professional librarians (the head college librarian, a reference librarian and assistant college librarian, and a cataloger), two librarians, and three library assistant-clerks, one bookbinder, and four part-time student assistants. The College of Education Library is open to students, faculty and staff of the University of the Philippines System and the graduate students and educational researchers from other institutions.
